Earth Day of Service with Three Sisters Nixtamal

  • Three Sisters Nixtamal 7475 Southeast 72nd Avenue Portland, OR, 97206 United States (map)

Come join the City Repair Project as we support a SE organic tortilla production company transform their parking strips into habitat friendly and food producing green spaces! Restoration will include adding mulch, soil, then herbs, vegetables and flowers. This workparty prepares for future greening during the annual Village Building Convergence (#VBC18) early June.

For 4/22 it is a rain-or-shine event, so dress for the weather. Snacks and tools provided.

City Repair is a sustainability and placemaking non-profit that has helped communities in Portland to create over 600 projects mostly using public art, permaculture gardens, and earthen buildings over the past 20 years, mostly through an annual event called the Village Building Convergence. Three Sisters Nixtamal makes organic corn masa using the thousands of years old, nutritionally-rich method of Nixtamalization--- whole organic dried corn, cooked with lime and ground in a stone mill. Our masa is the essential building block in making our tortillas and potosinas. You can also use it to make your own tortillas, sopes, hauraches or tamales. We source the highest quality local and organic ingredients--- corn grown in California, creamy goat cheese and queso fresco crafted in the Northwest, and vegetables from local farms. http://www.threesisterspdx.com/
