The Earth Day Celebration Organizing Coalition honors human collective action and local empowerment. This event is sponsored by the many organizations and businesses who are volunteering their efforts and resources to make this a true community project.
We greatly appreciate all kinds of local support, including involvement with the Celebration (coordinating, volunteering, boothing, vending, etc.) as well as in-kind and monetary donations. All donors will be recognized equally by the Organizing Coalition.
Event sponsors are those organizations and individuals who are part of the Organizing Coalition. If you would like to be part of the Coalition, contact The City Repair Project at earthday[at]cityrepair.org or 503-235-8946 ext. 3 to start getting involved.
The City Repair Project ~ Spring 2001 ~ Portland, Oregon
...inspired by the work of many, especially Fundacion Neotropica and The Earth Council Indigenous Peoples Project (Costa Rica).
Sustainability means the maintenance and continuity of life, from generation to generation. It means living in a way that does not compromise the present and future well-being of our ecosystem and all that is part of it, including humans.
“Holistic Sustainability” emphasizes that all lives, all systems and all actions are interconnected and interdependent. This implies that achieving sustainability will be a social, economic, ecological, political, cultural, territorial, philosophical and wholly multi-faceted process.
The Earth Day Celebration organizing coalition recognizes these basic principles of holistic sustainability, and will use them to guide our work.
