Sunnyside Piazza

SE 33rd & Yamhill, Portland

PROJECT STATUS: Phase II (trellises, planters, repaint) installed 05/10/03 during Village Building Convergence 03. We received a grant in January 2003 from the City Bureau of Housing and Community Development to help fund Phase II.

PROJECT UPDATE Spring 2003: The neighborhood group will install Phase II on Saturday, May 10th, 2003, when we re-paint the intersection during the Village Building Convergence! We’re working with public artists Brian Borrello and Matt Cartwright on these and other installations (such as images of salmon and other cultural symbols on the sidewalks in front of participating houses).

The neighbors recently got together with Matt Cartwright to design and pre-assemble a canopy that sits over the sidewalk in front of the fountain. Visit Katie’s canopy photo page for more images.

Sunnyside Piazza received a grant from the City of Portland’s Community Initiative Small Grant that help us install Phase II: corner trellises, together with planters that will act as curb extensions.

On February 6th, 2003, the kiosk got a solar-powered lamp to add even more life and light to the Piazza! The lamp is a series of 3 LEDs powered from a battery charged by a solar panel set in the kiosk’s eco-roof. View our photos and notes page for more details!
